Overview
F/A-18C Hornet Blue Angels High Performance 90mm EDF Jet - PNP from Freewing - FJ31414P
Version Info: This is the High Performance version of the Freewing F/A-18C Hornet Blue Angels. This version includes full digital metal gear servos for elevators and flaps and, as of 10/13/2023, a newly designed 3668-1960Kv inrunner motor with 12-blade fan and a thrust reversing 120A ESC.

Over ten years ago, Freewing began developing their first American 90mm EDF, the F/A-18E Super Hornet. Made of EPS foam and sporting a plastic five blade fan, that model was one of the first 90mm PNPs to demonstrate Freewing’s dreams, and it set the stage for their evolution. Having partnered with us at Motion RC for the past seven years, we’ve all been humbly privileged to expand the Foam EDF Jet’s place in the RC hobby and earn the business of customers worldwide. Thank you for your continued feedback, excitement, and trust!
To celebrate Freewing’s Eleventh anniversary, we are proud to announce an all-new 90mm F/A-18C Hornet, complete with all the latest features common to modern era EDFs in our Super Scale series. Be sure to save a summer slot for the Freewing F/A-18C, the quintessential 90mm Hornet on the planet!

A Few Years With The Hornet

After a while with it, here are the things I have noticed and hope you guys can find useful: CG- Most freewing aircraft suggest a nose heavy CG, but this one is very close to manual. With gear up, I found the best CG to be 88-93mm from leading edge of the wing. I generally fly more conservative, so you can probably go up to 95mm, but I found the CG is more crucial on this one than others. I have used both 5000 and 6000 packs, and you can get pretty close to this CG with either, 6000 being a smudge nose heavy. Flight- This is not a first EDF. She is heavy, and requires power on landings. I have also found you need a pretty substantial amount of right trim to offset the fan. I did it with the ailerons, but I am sure you can do it with the horizontal stabs as well with smaller changes if you don't want it looking like its doing a slow right aileron turn when sitting on the ground. The flaps are pretty much book set up, with 3% up elevator at half and 5% at full. If you are turning with full flaps and gear down, keep that power in, or she will bite pretty fast. She does not land super slow, full flaps, but that is pretty expected with something like this. And if you are dealing with a crosswind, I only do half flaps or it's a wonky mess. There is a huge range of throws that you can do, pretty much what your heart desires. I use 30% expo and found (in percent of 100% travel): Conservative low rate: aileron: 55% elevator: 42% rudder: 65% mid rate: aileron: 75% elevator: 50% rudder: 75% High rate: aileron: 100% elevator: 60% rudder: 90% The elevator is very effective and you can certainly go above 60%, I just have found I don't need it with my style. Super easy to transport and the gear can handle quite a bit. There have been stories about the rear gear doors not shutting, but I have had no issues. This thing truly is a great plane and would recommend it to anyone with some large edf experience.
